In Chicago with the Jesus people. So so so good to see Azuree. And she's spoiling me.
Not taking care of responsibilities at home.
Going for runs around Lake Michigan. The air is brisk and biting. It makes me feel alive.
Real girl time. I bought sophisticated winter gloves and for some reason that makes me feel like a grown up. It also makes me realize that I will be in Switzerland for winter.
The seasons are changing. It seems appropriate to be here.

losing sight of the shore
Instead of looking for a job, something more imperative than my need for adventure (or so society tells me), I went looking for a swashbuckling good time this weekend.
Friday night I went to hangout with a young Canadian. We didnt know what to do, but we knew it was high time for us to become friends. Feeling constrained by the house and our immobility, we moved to the front porch. We carried on in conversation, tea and cigarettes were used as fillers. Somehow I introduced word roundup puzzles and luckily, Im not the only one who loves them. We played for nearly 6 hours before we realized it. Friends came and went from the front porch and thought we had lost our minds. Maybe we did, but we were happy. Peanut butter and jelly was served for dinner and I sent myself on my way home. Thats a successful Friday night if I ever did have one.
Saturday I woke up early and rode my bike to the farmers market. It was crowded, but it was only a matter of minutes before I ran into familiar faces. We made our way to the park and enjoyed Saturday in Winter Park. After lunch, I headed to Lizs work to meet up with her for a trip to Daytona. We went to see photographer and sassmaster, Jill Greenberg, speak. Im not an aspiring photographer, so her indifference to being a famous photographer didnt offend me and I was highly amused.
As soon as we got back from Daytona, I was ready to meet up with friends to hitch a ride to the boonies to go camping. They told me to meet them at a gas station at 7:30. It was 7:40 and I was told to expect a wait of another half an hour. This is when not having a car in Florida gets entertaining. I had to figure out where to put my bike, because it probably wouldnt be there in the morning if I left it at the gasstation and there wasnt much around to keep me entertained for half an hour. I headed to a hospital, because I figured the valet guys in front of the emergency room would guard my bike overnight. They were highly suspicious of me, so I pretended like I was going into the hospital. I sat down in the waiting room and realized very quickly that that was a bad idea when I noticed the woman with the crack baby sitting near me. I could only tolerate that so long before I headed to Wendys. At this point, I found out I would be waiting for another hour and that still wasnt enough to prepare me to buy anything from Wendys. I wandered around and talked to an old man waiting at the busstation. I made my way back to the gasstation and made friends with the character of a lady that was working.
I finally loaded into the car heading for a camping adventure. Sitting around the campfire and sleeping outside made Orlando seem so far away. Making breakfast together and throwing eggs at each other made waking up with friends seem epic. The weekend ended with me floating from one spring to another. The water was crisp and clear and now unemployment isnt such a bad thing.

duck duck goose
We dont have a choice.
Democracy by Langston Hughes
"Democracy will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.
I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.
I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I'm dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow's bread.
Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.
I live here, too.
I want freedom
Just as you.
Democracy by Leonard Cohen
It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that it ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

today i saw bill clinton speak at my school. theres something about feeling like youre a part of history, but that excitement finally fades when you feel like youre in a scene from Animal Farm.
I would be posting the Talking Heads' Building on Fire video if it existed.
Today was long and frustrating. I would go absolutely crazy if it wasnt for my amazing friends.
